So as you probably guessed this has a pirate theme with you treasure hunting with captain Scarrlet (no relation to that puppet tv show) in order to find some pieces of a compass which will lead to the treasure, typical pirate fare but with a borderlands twist, oh and spoilers she will absolutely stab you in the back at one point, her words not mine, anyway the DLC is still rife with the standard borderlands humor as one of the first places you’ll come across is the disreveled town of oasis that has suffered a harsh drought that left the townsfolk dead of thirst, the single survivor is a handsome bugger named shade who has gone insane from loneliness and has set up the corpses with speakers and pretends that they are still alive….meet your new best friend and pretty much only friend as everything else wants to kill you, so the craziness is still intact but what does this dlc offer besides a new BFF? first of all you get a new vehicle type inspired by the sand skiffs from tatooine in return of the jedi and unlike the runners and technicals of the main campaign that handle like drunk elephants, (still fun though) these are hovercrafts and are much more free-flowing allowing for much more control over them, most of the enemies are reskinned versions of typical bandits but there are new enemy types in the game such as anchormen that use hefty anchors as weapons (obviously) that he can use to reflect your shots back at you and use them to pull you towards him for a pounding or the pirate ninjas (real creative) that are fast and can disappear when their health gets low then reappear for a quick slash, some of these enemy types shake combat up a bit which is always welcome.
The first of the downloadable content packs is Captain Scarrlet’s pirate booty, it stars a beautiful and deadly pirate queen and her quest to find the lost treasure of captain Blade the most terrible and ruthless pirate captain ever to sail the sands And no the title it isn’t a euphemism for the title character’s backside….unfortunatly. The downloadable content of the original borderlands was considered to be one of the best content available for the format so the sequel has a lot to live up to in order to prove itself.
